Kevin Siegfried’s Shaker Harmony Collection gives the modern chorus access to the moving, rich, and vast song repertoire of the Shakers, the small American religious community known for their simplicity, artistic inspiration, and practical utility. Siegfried says, “I have attempted to maintain the simplicity and directness of the original melodies and spotlight the importance of unison singing in the Shaker tradition.” Arranged for a cappella voices, the joyous texts reveal the idealistic spirit that has moved the Shakers since their early days in America. Siegfried’s arrangements are the fruit of his long, direct and personal study and collaboration with living Shakers and the Shaker song tradition, giving life to these songs in modern worship and on the concert stage.
